Title: Obesitat i diabetis tipus 2 en nens i adolescents. Una nova epidèmia mundial

Abstract: Obesity is a multifactorial disorder in which are involved different factors. A 13.9% of the population in Spain suffer from obesity and 12,4% are overweight. Furthermore, the prevalence of DM2 in children and teenagers has increased in recent years by 15-45%. The key to preventing the incidence of DM2 in children and teenagers is to prevent and treat obesity and overweight. Fat tissue works as a secretory organ, producing inflammatory cytokines and hormones responsible for insulin resistance. By avoiding the accumulation of fat and especially visceral fat through diet and physical activity, DM2 can be treated and prevented. There are different policies to prevent and treat these diseases. This policies have caused stability and do not increase of overweight and obesity prevalence in European, but this prevalence do not decrease. This fact leads us to have to strengthen these policies and continue to propose others witch that will allow us to reduce and eradicate these diseases in the 21st century. The methodology of this work is a literature review to analyse the complications, prevention and treatment of these diseases in pediatric age.
