Abstract: Emotional intelligence summarizes the abilities to interact skilfully through emotions and feelings, allowing the development of self-knowledge, motivation and impulse control, among other processes. Disruptive behaviours are expressions that generate interruption in the educational development. The present study deals with emotional intelligence (hereinafter, EI) and its relationship with disruptive behaviours and / or conflicts and their causes in a classroom context. A causal or intentional probabilistic sampling of 50 3rd grade Primary Education students (27 boys and 23 girls) has been used. The research has been conducted through a mixed methodology of sequential explanatory type supported by the survey technique applying the TEIQue (Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire) version for teachers and an ad hoc questionnaire on disruptive behaviours / conflicts and their causes. The results obtained indicate that there is a significant linear relationship between emotional intelligence and the number of disruptive behaviours / conflicts. Furthermore, the data shows that there is also a relationship between the types of disruptive behaviours / conflicts and their causes. It is concluded that the higher the degree of emotional intelligence, the lower the number of disruptive behaviours / conflicts and the lower the number of disruptive behaviours / conflicts, the higher the level of emotional intelligence. Therefore, all this suggests that at a higher level of EI and less or practically no conflicts fosters better interpersonal relationships, greater prosocial attitude, greater emotional self-regulation, and greater social skills.
