Abstract: Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, which implies focusing on its prevention, early detection, diagnosis and treatment. The inhibition of angiogenesis has become a clinical anticancer strategy, but the drugs used are not always effective, many develop resistance, and some are toxic. Therefore, it would be interesting to identify alternative compounds. Thus, 'angioprevention' arises as the use of foods rich in angiogenesis inhibitor molecules or of these molecules in the form of drugs to prevent, delay or combat the growth of tumours. In this context, there is increasing evidence that extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) phenols have potent biological activities that could explain some beneficial health effects of the Mediterranean diet, including the low prevalence of certain types of cancer. In the present work, EVOO phenols were analysed as possible inhibitors of the enzymes DNA methyltransferases (DNMTs) and catechol O-methyltransferase (COMT), involved in angiogenesis processes, performing in silico computational studies. Various phenols could bind effectively to the binding sites of these proteins, thus showing potential antiangionic activity and could be used as nutraceuticals in anticancer therapy. Although the synthesis of natural products can be complicated and expensive, several of the selected phenols have been found to be commercial. In addition, commercial compounds similar to these phenols were studied and it was found that some are potential inhibitors of these proteins, so that they could also be used as anticancer drugs.
