Abstract: Subtitling for the deaf or hard of hearing (from now on, SDH) is an audiovisual translation technique for the accessibility of the deaf community to the audiovisual media. It is regulated by UNE 153010, which appeared in 2003 and was revised in 2012. On the one hand, this paper is intended to make an overview of the status of the SDH in Spain, from its appearance until today, with the rising of the online platforms. On the other hand, the parameters that rule the norm will be discerned, such as the way in which the characters are identified or the sound effects are displayed. There will also be an evaluation of the content of a series in an online platform according to the above norm. Subsequently, excerpts from this series will be changed according to the criteria of the receiver. Finally, a study will be made in order to check whether the standard is adapted to their needs and to see if there are other plausible alternatives to the norm.
