Abstract: Introduction: The sexual transmission is one of the acquisition routes of extended spectrum ¿-lactamase (ESBL) producing enterobacteria or meningococci in our area. The aim of this study is to determine the existence of particular linages transmitted by sexual contact of N. meningiditis and ESBL-producing E. coli. To do so, isolates of this species from sexual transmitted infections screening were whole genome sequenced to identify their serogroup, resistome, plasmidome, genomic epidemiology and phylogeny. Results: Among the capsulated meningococci the most frequent was the B serogroup, yet most of the obtained isolated presented mutations on the capsule cassette or the capsule null locus. There was not a predominating linage due to a high genetic diversity between the isolates. Regarding the E. coli isolates, the B2 phylo-group was the most detected. The sequence-types most frequently obtained were the ST14 and ST131. Concerning the ESBL analyzed, CTX-M-15 was the most frequent, although CTX-M-27 and SHV-12 presented a high prevalence. Conclusions: The expansion of specific meningococci linages by sexual route has been discarded in our area. Nevertheless, it is worth to point the detection of high-risk and hypervirulent clones, the CC11, CC213 and CC32. The E. coli isolates were mainly from the B2 phylo-group, the most related with extra-intestinal infection. The genetic distance detected in the most frequent sequence-types (ST14 and ST131) may be due to a recent transmission, which would confirm the sexual transmission of this organism.
