Title: El candelabro sideral de Herramélluri. ¿Mitraísmo en la Libia de los berones?
Author: Echarte Hernandorena, Francisco Javier
Tutor: Oller Guzmán, Joan
Abstract: Based on the photograph and description (the only available source) of a casting mold (the sidereal candelabrum of Herramélluri), research has been carried out on the Berones people, their historical and geographical context, taking into account the archaeological remains of Libya and on Mithraism, its diffusion and its presence in Hispania. The evidences are compatible with the cataloguing of the candelabrum as a mold for the casting in lead of short series of a cultic object of Mithraism, datable between the final period of the II century A.D. and the middle of the III century A.D. However, no evidences of a Mithraic community in Libya have been appreciated, although there are factors (military, commercial) that could explain it. On the other hand, the well-known Venus of Herramélluri and the presence of the Roman goddess in Mithraic contexts have been studied, after which a novel hypothesis is offered, which would link the figurine with Mithraism.
