Abstract: Cartography has traditionally been one of the instruments used by those in power in order to convert cities into organized spaces, which is to say, predictable and stable. The aim of this text is to uncover this intent which can be found under the guise of scientific objectivity, and which causes a map, created from just one journey, to influence subsequent ones. Furthermore, the walker is the one who has the last word and, during his/her journey, demonstrates that he/she has the authority to both adhere to or to disregard official cartographical guidelines. Likewise, he/she can do without any maps or, of course, create his own personal map, made in good faith and without the pretense of universality.
