Abstract: Population aging is a worldwide phenomenon with a strong incidence in Spain. The cooccurrence of an increased life expectancy, decreased birth rate and a stable mortality rate largely explain this population trend. As a consequence, modern societies are experiencing a strong increase in adult dependency and an alarming need for caretakers who can provide the at home assistance the elderly are so much in dependent on to carry out with the basic activities of their daily life. Such caretakers offer find themselves in a situation of “overload” that exert detrimental effects on their wellbeing. Nonetheless, modern digital technologies may be of use to alleviate those negative effects. This review aims to explore how these new multimedia platforms influence caretaker´s professional training and health. More specifically, we aim to identify and analyze the most frequently used resources for caregiver's training and to delineate the effects that they exert on the trainees. Our literature review encompasses articles published between 2017 and 2022 as well as data bases (Pubmed, Web of Science, Cinahl, Scopus, Lilacs, Cuiden, ACM Digital Libray, Cochrane and Social Care Online) curated between December 2022 and January 2023. The keywords used were: "family caregivers", "informal caregivers" and "spouse caregivers"; the words "multimedia", "social media", "internet", "empowerment" "you tube" were used to narrow down the search. Our results show that the multimedia resources with the best positive effects on caregivers are those with a highly interactive component, providing social support, identifying their professional and personal challenges and barriers, as well as providing clear instructions to change their behavior and that of their dependents. Moreover, the use of these new digital resources had clear beneficial effects on caregiver’s wellbeing, evidenced by a strong decline in their depression, anxiety and stress levels. At the same time, caregivers experienced a boost in self-steam, empowerment, professional competence and quality of life related to health (CVRS). Conclusion: Introducing interventions based on multimedia resources into the care of PCD should be seen as a necessity in the socio-sanitary system.
