Abstract: The aim of this TFM is to offer a chronological tour of the literary archetype of the witch through literature, art, and cinema, emphasizing its use as an ideological apparatus of power or an instrument of terror to control society, and especially to women. The phenomenon of the witch hunt begins in the 15th century and has its peak in the following two centuries, but there are data on the persecution of necromancers from the Ancient Ages. As Silvia Federici points out, this process is linked to the origin of capitalism that wanted to divide work by sex, relegating women to the reproductive trade and is also linked to the slave trade and colonization. Reason why it is universalized and practiced today in African or Latin American countries. It can be said that with the rise of feminism begins the turning point in the representation of the pejorative witch stereotype, which shows that there is reciprocity between artistic representation and the advancement of society. In the last chapter, we will go from the universal to the local to review the state of the matter based on current cinematographic and literary examples and claim platforms such as the Memory of the Witches, to finally give way to the conclusions or reflections drawn of the inquiry.
