Title: Gendered networks and work. The case of Social Entrepreneurship, and the Social and Solidarity Economy in Barcelona

Abstract: This dissertation explores the degree to which an organizational ecosystem from the social and solidarity economy in Barcelona is gendered. Are there gender differences in terms of ‘decent work’ conditions? Are there gender differences for social entrepreneurs in terms of access to key resources, such as advice and financial support? How does the gender of individuals leading organizations in the social and solidarity economy affect the emergence of interorganizational network structures? By means of three different empirical studies, this dissertation tackles these and other questions addressing the following distinctive dimensions: individual workers, organizations, and interorganizational networks. This dissertation contributes to different streams of research, offers new theoretical insights, and proposes future research lines. The first study helps filling the research gap on ‘decent work’ with regard to salary received, working time, time to develop tasks, and unpaid care work responsibilities to understand how these conditions might impact on workers’ wellbeing. The second study contributes to filling the research gap on gender in interorganizational networks from the perspective of individual organizations. The third study contributes to filling the research gap on gender in interorganizational networks from a ‘whole’ network perspective. Finally, this dissertation contributes to the discussion about feminist values in organizational ecosystems, and provides new insights about social and solidarity economy, interorganizational networks, and gender.
