Title: El futuro de las cajas escénicas y la relación con sus públicos en el Campo de Gibraltar
Author: Quintana Álvarez, Álvaro José

Abstract: This research has analyzed the situation of stage equipment in the six public theaters in the Campo de Gibraltar region, Cádiz. The general objective has focused on the lack of technological resources in these spaces and their relationship with the audience. The study starts from a theoretical framework explaining what stage equipment is, its technical requirements, and the region's historical relationship with theatrical performances. A mixed methodology has been used to gather quantitative and qualitative data, including analysis of technical theater documents, four personal interviews with producers, two interviews with culture councilors, and two online surveys conducted between April 24, 2023, and May 10, 2023. One survey targeted the general audience with a participation of 257 individuals, and the other was directed at 89 scenic professionals. The study has revealed a lack of demand for digital multimedia, immersive, and interactive content from both the audience and the theatrical companies that use publicly managed theaters. Only 29% of scenic productions offer some form of multimedia and/or immersive content, and 65% of consumers do not demand these new digital narratives in theaters, primarily due to the majority of the audience falling within the age range of 46 to 65 years old. Furthermore, these spaces are not fully adapted to meet the technical demands of artistic companies, as only 10% of the performances are not forced to lower their technical requirements due to a lack of resources. Therefore, the scarcity of technical resources does not incentivize the creation of new digital narratives and, in turn, hinders political leaders from pushing for a renewal of technical elements that would enable an update of the performing arts.
