Abstract: In the city of Barcelona, women's rights diminished during the Low Middle Ages and underwent a reversal induced by a growing misogyny. At the same time, the city had become an important slave market and slave ownership spread to all estates of society without being censured by the Church. We shall see what meant to be a woman slave and examine her presence in feminine monastic institutions in Barcelona, to go deeper into the reality of the Monastery of Sant Antoni i Santa Clara de Barcelona, based on a research carried out in its document repository, guarded in the archive of the Monastery of Sant Benet de Montserrat, and the use of unpublished documents.
