Abstract: | Christianity at the beginning meant for women the opportunity to choose something different than marriage and motherhood that the Greco-Roman society deserved to them. In the earliest times, over the process of institutionalizing the new religion (s. I-IV), women in the early Christian communities had been given positions of responsibility jointly with their male colleagues, was relegated to the development of auxiliary tasks. The changes in the feminine role during this period will be reflected in the transformations through the literature on the key figure of Thecla of Iconium (Saint Tecla), a timeless character, so able to represent the different archetypes of ideal women created by the Christian Church, as the emancipatory desire of some feminist groups. |
