Resumen : To find out whether the role of internal communication was transformed or transubstan-tiated as a result of the situation caused by the COVID-19 health crisis, a series of struc-tured interviews with communication managers were held from the most severe period of lockdown (April 2020) until the end of the fifth wave (June 2021), with the aim of exam-ining whether the function of internal communication in organizations had been affected by this health crisis and if so, to what extent. Internal communication as a managerial function underwent adaptation and adjustments, for which organizations had no ad hoc existing manuals or guidelines to follow instricto sensu, because the nearest precedent comparable to the current situation occurred over a century ago and within a completely different economic context. The pandemic has led to a marked digitization of internal communication channels, the dissemination of contents focused on health, well-being and safety of employees, alignment with the team, transparency, sustainability and diver-sity, with the express aim of providing emotional support and forging an image of securi-ty. It has also become an accelerating factor from a strategic perspective. Furthermore, new gaps have emerged, such as the need for employee self-management, along with managerial challenges posed by ambiguity, privacy, data accuracy and security and work-life balance in the teleworking context. All these concerns imply and require the direct involvement of internal communication to tackle them and find solutions. Yet what has changed is the various ways the internal communication function displays itself, but not the substance of the discipline.
Com a conclusions de l’estudi, s’observa una manca d’orientació dels departaments de comunicació de les universitats catalanes cap a la perspectiva de la direcció estratègica especialitzada en relacions públiques.; this study presents detailed up-to-date information on the practice of the communication departments of the Catalan universities and on how the Catalan university sector proposes the communicative function in its organizational charts. Qualitative research has been carried out on the basis of in-depth interviews with a representative sample (67 %) of the communication directors of the Catalan universities. results show that only one of the eight universities in the sample is developing strategic communication plans. the prevailing communication techniques are media relations and publicity. the situation of the communication departments in the general organization chart of the Catalan universities, the names of their managers and the training required of them confirm the insufficient importance that the universities attribute to their communication departments. the study concludes that the Catalan universities are not oriented towards the strategic direction specialized in public relations.2023-05-25T00:00:00ZThe Process of Implementing a Place Brand Based on a Multilevel Approach: The Case of the Municipality of Masquefa

Resumen : Place branding is a discipline at the intersection of geography and communications, devoted to the process by which places become brands, understood as devices for managing a desired identity presented to the outside world, and also for internal consumption by the residents of the place. This paper intends to explain the conceptualization process of a place brand, and to present the methodological framework for building a brand that takes into account all audiences and stakeholders, thus strengthening the identity of the place. The case presented here is Masquefa, a municipality in the Barcelona province. The methodology has been structured in three phases: first, an initial diagnosis and data gathering; next, fieldwork and public participation (interviews, surveys, and discussion in focus groups); and third, construction of the story. The conclusions of this article show how a municipality without any significant tangible and intangible assets to truly identify it can build a brand story accepted by all agents, both public and private, which will help it grow sustainably in the future.2023-11-16T00:00:00ZEditorial: From paper and pencil tasks to virtual reality interventions: improving spatial abilities in girls and women

Título : A Study on the Design and Application of Fictional Storytelling in Online Learning of Computer Security
Autoría: Arnedo-Moreno, Joan; Garcia-Font, Victor
Resumen : Computer security is an important part of the computer science (CS) curriculum in all kinds of universities. Although the educational approach tends to be highly technical and practical, it cannot be avoided that some understanding and memorizing of the core concepts is necessary beforehand. One method that has been found to work in favor of human psychology, and of special interest in the case of online learning, where student motivation is at a higher stake, would be to present such content as memorable and relatable situations to the reader, using some form of fictional storytelling. However, this approach must always serve its educational purpose first, following a set of sound design principles. This paper presents a study including 111 participants to evaluate the convenience of using a digital book called the “novelette”, which relies on storytelling, to teach computer security concepts in the CS degree of Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), a 100% online university. The study involved two questionnaires to gather quantitative and qualitative information about the format, content and students’ perception. This study shows that the validity and usefulness of this approach is on par with traditional ones, but also has a higher impact on student motivation and self-perception of the acquired knowledge.2021-07-01T00:00:00ZCarta dels editors

Título : Design Trend Forecasting by Combining Conceptual Analysis and Semantic Projections: New Tools for Open Innovation
Autoría: Manetti, Alessandro; Ferrer-Sapena, Antonia; Sánchez Pérez, Enrique Alfonso ; Lara-Navarra, Pablo
Resumen : In this paper, we describe a new trend analysis and forecasting method (Deflexor), which is intended to help inform decisions in almost any field of human social activity, including, for example, business, art and design. As a result of the combination of conceptual analysis, fuzzy mathematics and some new reinforcing learning methods, we propose an automatic procedure based on Big Data that provides an assessment of the evolution of design trends. The resulting tool can be used to study general trends in any field—depending on the data sets used—while allowing the evaluation of the future acceptance of a particular design product, becoming in this way, a new instrument for Open Innovation. The mathematical characterization of what is a semantic projection, together with the use of the theory of Lipschitz functions in metric spaces, provides a broad-spectrum predictive tool. Although the results depend on the data sets used, the periods of updating and the sources of general information, our model allows for the creation of specific tools for trend analysis in particular fields that are adaptable to different environments.2021-03-02T00:00:00Z
