Title: La transformación hoplítica del ejército griego y su trascendencia social
Author: Cerezuela Abarca, Emilio
Tutor: Sierra Martín, César
Abstract: Study on the emergence of the Hoplite infantry in Ancient Greece in the archaic period, until the consolidation of the military model in classical times, with all the social and political connotations that this implies. Which will be based on the preceding situation, known as the dark period, which has its roots in the late Mycenaean period. The consequence of this is that, both the panoply and the way of fighting and the tactics will evolve between S.VIII-V a.C., and the social and political transformations parallel to these will completely change the Greek world. But it is important to point out that this process takes place completely gradually, finding in each period vestiges of the previous one, either in armament or tactics, therefore not being the cause of a sudden revolution or reform. For the study of the phenomenon, the primary sources are fundamental, especially from the S.V a.C., as well as the material remains in the form of Attic and Corinthian ceramics that provide an approximate image of the Hoplite warrior of the time, in addition to the numerous existing modern studies on the subject matter. The conclusions presented are the result of the analysis and study by me of the different existing primary and secondary sources, and of my approach towards the line of those authors whose tendency (mostly since the middle of the 20th century of our era), is to understand the process of configuring the hoplite infantry gradually in the indicated period.
