Abstract: This paper aims to characterize visualization and infographics in narrative terms. First, specific definitions are given for 'visualization and infographics' and 'narrative' in the digital context. Then, a heuristic exploration through the visual discovery tool Pinterest and its boards (collections) and pins (images) system enables us to generate a qualitative and quantitative corpus of current visualization and infographics, and a second, more specific corpus of narrative ones. Content analysis of this selection indicates that journalism and cinema are the main thematic sources, and that annotated graphs and animations are the main formats of narrative visualization and infographics.
