Title: Evaluación e intervención neuropsicológica en un caso de encefalitis autoinmune por anticuerpos contra los receptores N-metil-D-aspartato (NMDA)

Abstract: This paper deals with a patient diagnosed with autoimmune encephalitis by antibodies against N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors. This is a type of autoimmune encephalitis characterized by the presence of antibodies that attack the brain receptors of glutamate NMDA. Initially a non-specific prodrome is usually presented, followed by psychiatric symptoms, cognitive alterations, motor abnormalities and finally autonomic instability. The case chosen is that of a 21-year-old fictitious patient who is referred to the Neuropsychology service. In the neuropsychological evaluation carried out, mainly mnesic and executive alterations, affectation neuropsychiatric important, highlighting apathy, irritability, anxiety, depression and inappropriate behaviours are objectified. The neuropsychological intervention proposed on the basis of the results obtained consists of 2 weekly sessions of 60 minutes of an approximate duration of 6 months. The general objective is to improve affected cognitive functions, emotional and behavioural symptoms in order to reduce their impact on daily life. This intervention includes: psychoeducation, cognitive stimulation, deficit compensatory strategies, psychotherapy and family intervention. The expected results in neuropsychological rehabilitation will demonstrate a significant improvement at the cognitive, emotional and behavioural level reducing the impact of alterations in daily life and promoting personal autonomy.
