This Master's Thesis examines the problems associated with industrial automation networks for real-time systems, as well as the different alternatives and existing solutions in this regard. In particular, a description of several field buses and industrial Ethernet networks is made. In addition, this paper investigates the repercussions of the digital transformation of the industry at the connectivity level towards the so-called Industry 4.0, as well as the role played in this transformation by the TSN standards proposed by the IEEE 802.1 working group. Also these standards are analyzed and described in this Thesis.
