Abstract: Hibernation is one of the most drastic strategies that some mammals use to face unfavorable seasons of the year. It is currently believed that the physiological changes experienced by these mammals during hibernation are ruled by variations in the expression of certain genes, also present in mammalian non-hibernators. In order to confirm or deny this theory, it is necessary to investigate this phenomenon in phylogenetically distant species in search of common patterns. Previously, RNA sequencing was used to investigate variations in torpor-related gene expression in a group of hibernating primates consisting of four Madagascar thick-tailed dwarf lemurs (Cheirogaleus medius). Bioinformatic analysis of RNA sequencing data was performed in the absence of a reference genome. 90 genes with differential expression were identified when two active states were compared with the torpor state. Considering that there are currently two genome assemblies of this species, RNA sequencing data has been analyzed following a different methodology that has allowed us to expand the list of differentially expressed genes with 29 new genes. These are involved in metabolic processes, biological regulation, molecular transport, etc., necessary for survival during torpor.
