Title: Alfabetización digital: una obligación legal y social desatendida en la formación docente
Author: Díaz-Bernardos Gómez, Héctor

Abstract: The new paradigm of the information and knowledge society requires new literacies and skills that must be offered to citizens through education. Teacher literacy and digital competence are two key elements for developing critical and reflective citizens with the information they receive. However, there is a deficiency in teacher training in digital matters and this has an impact on the quality of education, since teachers do not have sufficient skills, abilities, and knowledge to effectively introduce information and communication technologies into the classroom. This fact means that both legislative and social demands are being neglected. Educational institutions must take into account the new technological paradigm and this means restructuring the academic offer in teacher training and designing new curricula that integrate Educational Technology Design as an indispensable and transversal element. Developing digital literacy and digital competence in future teachers, and in the active teaching staff, is an imperative need if we want to enable citizens to face the new social paradigm through the transformation of information, which is at their disposal, into knowledge.
