Abstract: In 2016, the Institut d¿Estudis Catalans (Institute of Catalan Studies) published the Gràmatica de la llengua catalana (GIEC), a work that forms part of a triad of publications detailing the grammatical norm of Catalan language to the Catalan-speaking world. As a notable addition, it offers extensive information about the usage of functional and geographical varieties of the language, inviting a review of the way by which certain linguistic phenomenons are conveyed. In the field of formal education, one of the most effective ways to reach linguistic normalisation and the implementation of the norm, teachers become the main conveyors of the current codification, and, in the end, of the standard variety of language. In this process, difficulties in applying the norm arise related to the distance between the norm and the different geographical varieties of the language, above all in oral communication and in less formal registers. The objective of this research is to test to what extent some characteristics of the lleidatà sub dialect of the north western variety of Catalan recorded in the Gramàtica de la llengua catalana are used by a part of the Lleidan teaching sector in oral communication in the classroom across two different educational centres in the demarcation of Lleida. The data has been obtained through a survey distributed to thirty teachers. Their answers provide information about the degree of knowledge that these teachers have of the norm and of its implementation, as well as the degree to which they keep or abandon some specific elements of this geographical sub variety of the language.
