Title: Las bebidas energéticas, ¿mejoran el rendimiento?

Abstract: The consumption of energy drinks has experienced a huge boom in consumption and sales in the last decade and are increasingly popular among athletes. Its predominant consumption is by adolescents and young adults, and also by athletes who seek to increase physical and mental performance. These stimulant drinks contain an inhomogeneous composition where the main active ingredient responsible for the stimulant effects is caffeine in higher amounts than in caffeinated refreshing drinks. The advertising of these products presents several images that evoke great muscular power and endurance. The purpose of this literature review is to identify studies that confirm energy drinks identified effects on performance improvement, in this case, improvement of physical abilities such as muscular endurance, strength, reaction speed, in elite athletes or athletes fans. Several studies indicate that the consumption of energy drinks with caffeine and taurine improve performance in different sports modalities (collective, adversary, individual) and in specific specific patterns in these modalities such as quick jumps without and with sports element, jump in squatting, jumping in motion and agility tests, where it has been concluded that the use of energy drinks containing caffeine can be an effective nutritional aid to increase performance in these types of patterns. At present there are no studies that state that these energy drinks with caffeine absence improve performance in athletes. In this case, there are studies where it has been found that improved energy drinks endurance performance, although the effects could be attributed to the content of caffeine and / or carbohydrates.
