Abstract: The strong presence of technology in our society has brought about a series of changes affecting the educational field. The profile of our current students presents a series of characteristics to which we, as teachers, have to adapt. As a result of the lack of interest and participation of students in the classroom, we intend to investigate one of the most current educational trends: gamification. This document aims to present gamification, accompanied by the use of ICTs, as an alternative to traditional educational systems, since new educational strategies are needed to motivate students and encourage them to learn in a meaningful way. The aim of this study is, through a theoretical review, to analyse whether the adoption of game elements for training purposes in the Primary Education stage has a positive influence on student learning. An analysis is made of the evolution of existing learning methodologies until they reach gamification, emphasizing their impact on student motivation to learn. In short, in view of the interest aroused by this type of active methodologies within the educational field and the lack of information, this work highlights the characteristics and effectiveness of gamification to increase the interest and motivation of students to learn. Therefore, it will serve as a guide for teachers in order to allow them to understand and successfully apply this methodology in Primary Education.
