Abstract: Performance in neuropsychological tests is related to the individual cultural group. Different biases in the transcultural neuropsychological assessment (TNS) have been described, although research is at a very initial stage (Ardila, 2007). Objectives. First, to analyze the relationship between four groups of patients with cultural diversity (PCD) and a control group of native patients, all of them aged 18 to 65 years old, with low to moderate mental psychopathology, and their performance in non verbal neuropsychological tests. And second, to analyze the efect of sociodemographic and cultural related variables in that relationship. Methods. First phase of bibliographic review on biases in the TNS. Second phase of empirical study, including the administration of a neuropsychological assessment protocol, and the later analysis of cuantitative variables using Pearson correlations; mean comparisons when one of the variables is qualitative; and multiple regression analysis with the resuls of the different neuropsychological test (DV's) and sociodemographic, cultural related variables and level of clinical psychopathology (IV¿s). Results. A negative relationship between belonging to a cultural diverse group and performance in neuropsychological tests is expected. And such a relationship is expected to be partialy explained by educational level, quality of received education and degree of acculturation. Conclusions. This is a innovative study in our cultural context, because previous studies have been developed with ethnic minorities in North America. It also innovative because it takes into account the effect of psychopathology on the neuropsychological tests performance. The present research project aims to extend the field of knowledge of transcultural neurpsychology with the aim to improve the neuropsychological assessment of PCD and mental disorder in our country and to contribute to a better allocation of sanitary and social resources.
