Abstract: Schizophrenia is a serious and chronic mental disorder that involves emotional, cognitive, behavioural and social alterations. Traditionally, neuropsychological symptoms have been characterised as a secondary issue of the disorder, but currently we know that most people with schizophrenia have mild-to-moderate cognitive impairment. This paper aims to describe the assessment and intervention process of a 30-years-old fictitious patient diagnosed with schizophrenia. Neuropsychological assessment reveals impairments in most cognitive domains, but these deficits are more severe in processing speed, executive functions and social cognition. Psychopathologically the patient is stable, although he presents mild symptoms that interfere in a reduced way in his daily life. Functionally, his difficulties are focused on interpersonal and socio-labour adaptation aspects. An 18-week intervention has been designed with two 50-minutes sessions per week; the intervention is based on a cognitive remediation approach. The general objective is to improve the patient´s adaptation to their family, social and work environment. The intervention is aimed at rehabilitating the cognitive domains of processing speed, executive functions and social cognition, and also includes psychoeducation of cognitive deficits and sessions with the family for the establishment of external supports.
