Abstract: The discovery that RNAs are capable of catalyzing biochemical reactions took place in the experiments of Cech's group, in 1981. This research group demonstrated the non-enzymatic autoprocessing of the intron of Tetrahymena ribosomal RNA. Among the natural ribozymes described since then, we can highlight the family of small self-cleaving ribozymes, such as the hammerhead ribozyme, as the most common and simple example, or the hepatitis delta virus ribozyme, in which will focus this study. The study to be carried out will mainly focus on the analysis of various motifs and sequences of catalytic and circular RNAs, and fundamentally following bioinformatic approaches. These approaches will consist on the one hand in the analysis and search for autocatalytic motifs in viral and eukaryotic genomes using specific software based on RNA structures (RNAmotif) and comparative genomics (BLAST).
