Abstract: The aim of this work is to determine how and when the novel Adolphe (1816), by Benjamin Constant, was received in Catalan literature. To this end, we have reviewed the translations that exist: that of Agustí Esclasans (1928), that of Marta Hernández Pibernat (2001) and that of Josep M. Muñoz Lloret (2013). The comparison of all three with the original and between them has allowed us to observe the translators' and publishers' choices and, therefore, to delimit under which prism Adolphe has been read in Catalan. As a result of the study, we have been able to verify that Adolphe's reception has not only been late, but has also been conditioned by each translation; especially due to the circumstances of the moment, the philological criteria and the commitment of the publishers. The translations have been mediated to different degrees, with source-type and meta-type approaches.
