Abstract: Smart Cities are born with the aim of creating a sustainable environment that improves the quality of citizens' lives. However, this technological progress can create obstacles for some groups of people. On one hand, elderly people often have difficulty in using new technologies. Furthermore, when information is displayed on smart screens, it creates impediments for visually impaired people. The aim of this work is to find a solution for these groups of people who, on a daily basis, use public transport to move around big cities. For this purpose, it is proposed the integration of speech technology in the theoretical development of a system incorporated in fixed devices, which are located at bus stops. This will allow and facilitate communication between a user and a machine. In this way, they can know the best route to go to a desired destination, as well as the estimated waiting time. Therefore, smart cities are prepared for people who have difficulties in using new technologies.
