Abstract: Iron is an essential element for the survival of most bacteria. Iron intervenes in growth and has a fundamental role in pathogenesis. In the same way that it is essential, it can be toxic in high concentrations, so it requires mechanisms to maintain constant levels. These mechanisms are called iron homeostasis, which is regulated by the Fur protein. This protein regulates negatively, and sometimes positively, the transcription of several genes related to iron uptake and pathogenesis, so it is of great importance to understand the mechanisms of pathogenesis and for developing possible therapeutic treatments. In this work, the Fur DNA binding sequence has been studied using motif discovery tools. We found a motif that was then used to perform a comparative genomics analysis with the tool CGB. As a result of the analyzes, a motif has been obtained that suggests a Fur-binding site, similar to a motif previously proposed in another study. After comparative genomics analysis, elements regulated by Fur have been obtained, where differences in regulation have been found for pathogenic and non-pathogenic bacteria, which suggest a role of Fur in the pathogenesis by regulating these genes. These genes have been compared with elements described in different studies.
