Abstract: Cognitive biases affect our usage of language triggering discriminatory situations and inequalities towards individuals or minorities. This project includes research, definition, ideation and prototyping phases for an intelligent assistant implemented as a keyboard app for mobile devices that would help remove cognitive biases in communications between people, improving the language by making it more inclusive. This assistant identifies offensive or discriminatory expressions and microaggressions via language analysis in chat applications. Moreover, it explains the rationale behind the detections and suggests alternative words or expressions in order for users to improve their original message and be able to create a more comfortable and inclusive environment. Human Centred Design methods and techniques were used in this project as a means to learn about the original problem, understand the needs of the target audience of this service, ideate and define a product that fulfils those needs and finally, evaluate the usability of a high-fidelity prototype using expert reviews and user tests. The outcome of this project is a prototype that meets the requirements and needs of the users, who have shown a great level of interest in adopting a solution like this in the real world.
