Abstract: This paper presents the case of a real patient who is referred to Clinical Psychology of the Benidorm Adult Mental Health Unit. He is a 45-year-old man with a history of substance use and numerous risk factors, who is diagnosed with acquired prosopagnosia due to chronic small vessel ischemia. Prosopagnosia is a loss of familiarity with previously known faces that makes it difficult to identify people by their faces. It is usually an initial manifestation of neurological diseases and t is associated with lesions in the circumvallation of the fusiform gyrus of the right temporal lobe or with bilateral lesions. The results of the neuropsychological evaluation carried out indicate alterations in temporal orientation, attention, processing speed, verbal fluency, face recognition, visuospatial skills, constructive praxis, immediate and delayed verbal memory, delayed visual memory and executive functions. Neuropsychiatric symptoms appear (irritability, apathy, depression and anxiety) and there is some functional impairment. Based on these results, a neuropsychological intervention is proposed for 9 months, with 3 sessions a week of 45 minutes. The general objective is to reduce cognitive impairment and behavioral and neuropsychiatric symptoms in order to minimize their impact on the daily life of the patient and their family. Includes cognitive rehabilitation and cognitive-behavioral therapy with the patient, family intervention and evaluation sessions. The most basic functions are expected to improve while deficits in the more complex functions may persist.
