Title: El Viaje de la Heroína. Representación femenina del arquetipo heroico en el cine de ciencia ficción
Author: López Alonso, Laura

Abstract: Industrial cinema is the perfect mirror where contemporary cultural models and sensibilities are reflected, but at the same time, it has an important role as a generator of those realities it tries to imitate and as a normalizer of social behaviours. For this reason, the representation of women in mass cinema is an object of tremendous interest not only as a witness to the perception that society has of women but also as a producer of referential female models. Specifically, these referential models are condensed in the figure of the heroine, as she symbolizes the search for maturity and the triumph over limitations. For this reason, this study offers a look at the representation of heroin in science fiction cinema from the 70s to the present. For this purpose, content analysis has been carried out on a sample of 20 films of the genre that have reached a wide audience, and which in turn have enjoyed a good reception from both the audience and the specialized sector, to know the image that heroin is passed on to the masses as valid. The results obtained to draw a profile of the archetype in terms of temperament, conflicts and development, present the journey they go through based on the hero's journey proposed by Vogler and reveal the low presence of leading heroines and the burden of gender stereotypes that they drag, often their only job in the story to care for and love the male hero.
