Title: Impacto de la Vitamina D en la enfermedad de COVID-19: Una revisión bibliográfica
Author: Perez Rivero, Helena Maria
Tutor: Brugnara, Laura
Abstract: Vitamin D has gained great prominence in recent times due to the fact that its insufficiency has been found to be involved in the development of several diseases, including respiratory diseases. In order to elucidate the causes of the pandemic caused by COVID-19, a bibliographic review has been carried out that brings together the scientific evidence in relation to Vitamin D and its impact on patients positive for the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, as well as whether insufficient values of this vitamin are a risk factor for suffering from the disease. The results showed that most studies affirm the association between hypovitaminosis and a higher incidence of the disease, as well as its relationship with sun exposure and certain comorbidities such as hypertension, obesity or diabetes. As a consequence, it has been shown that Vitamin D deficiency is a risk factor for COVID-19 disease, and is related to its prognosis and severity. Vitamin D supplementation as a coadjuvant to pharmacological treatment could improve the prognosis of the disease, so it is pertinent to carry out clinical trials in the future.
