Abstract: The traumatology and orthopedic surgery service is one of the most complex specialties in the health field, since medical prognosis after surgical intervention is complicated. Most of the time, patients present complex clinical diagnoses, where they must undergo surgical interventions whose recovery processes are lengthened in time. Throughout this Master's Final Project, the creation of a healthcare social-work focused intervention program in the traumatology and orthopedic surgery service of the University Hospital of Gran Canaria Doctor Negrín (HUGCDN) is proposed. In order to support the creation of the program, a justification is developed as to why it is vital to create a healthcare social-work intervention program in the HUGCDN orthopedic surgery and trauma service. Therefore, a first phase is carried out through qualitative methodology, using the technique of documentary analysis to support its implementation and the importance of the figure of health social work in that service. From there, we begin to outline the foundations of the healthcare social work intervention program in the HUGCDN trauma and orthopedic surgery service. The program is developed from the perspective of the biopsychosocial paradigm, where a proactive social health intervention and case management is proposed.
