Title: Impacte del Gossip a les organitzacions. Causes i Conseqüències de la difusió de rumors dins les empreses del territori català

Abstract: Gossip in organizations is a common but often overlooked phenomenon for both academics and human resources departments of organizations, finding few studies on the subject in the West, as opposed to East Asian countries, where it is attributed greater relevance to this phenomenon, in the West, in contrast to East Asian countries, where the phenomenon is more prevalent. Following this line, the objective of this study is to analyze and describe the causes and consequences of gossip at both the individual and organizational levels (source of gossip, recipient, and victim) and the impact it has on companies based in Catalonia. Thus, it has been possible to demonstrate that gossip is a common practice by employees, whatever their rank in the hierarchy, as well as the lack of involvement of companies in its eradication, as can be seen from the lack of existing intervention plans in companies in Catalonia. At the same time, it has been possible to detect the negative effect of gossip on the dynamics of group cohesion, on the work climate, on the well-being at work of the employees affected and their mental health, on the perceived performance and self-esteem at work, as well as engagement, cynicism and proactive behavior. Finally, it is demonstrated how certain leadership styles are to the existence of negative gossip in organizations. This study is a research project but at the same time it intends to suggest to organizations tools to deal with the problem. The study is divided into four phases: a first phase which consists of the analysis of the literature on gossip and which allows us to construct the framework for the study. and which allows us to build the theoretical framework; a second phase consisting of the elaboration of questionnaires on gossip, which were then distributed to the organizations. on gossip subsequently distributed to a sample of working individuals; a third phase of analysis of the results; and a fourth phase of analysis of the results; and a fourth and final phase of conclusions and proposals for intervention in the event of the existence of gossip in organizations.
