Abstract: The development of a secure attachment in infancy is crucial for the development of a healthy personality in the future. Most of the existing literature has focused on the association between breastfeeding and attachment. However, there are other types of breastfeeding that need to be taken into account. Therefore, the aim of this paper was to provide a description of the differences that exist between different types of breastfeeding and the formation of a secure attachment bond. A systematic review of 11 studies located through a literature search in PubMed, Psychology Database, APA PsycInfo, PsycArticles and the UOC library was carried out. The results are not conclusive, although most of the studies indicate that the existing differences are not due to the type of breastfeeding, but to the proximity and positive interactions that develop during the feeding process. These results may be promising in order to intervene in the processes that mediate the feeding context and, thus, promote an improvement in the maternal-filial relationship and, therefore, in the future development of the infant. However, limitations have been found in these studies and more research is needed to draw a solid conclusion.
