Abstract: Pollution of the air we breathe poses a risk to human health and the environment. According to the World Health Organization, 99% of the world's population lives in places where its air quality guidelines are not respected. Madrid is no exception. It is a large city with heavy traffic and a large number of households whose energy consumption for heating, cooking or lighting is a major source of pollutant emissions. In recent years, there has been greater awareness of the problem and some measures have been implemented, such as the increase in the network of cycle paths or the implementation of a Low Emission Zone in the city center. However, high pollution episodes are still common. The open data portal of the Madrid City Council provides data on the measurements of the most important pollutants since 2001 taken by the different monitoring stations distributed throughout the city. With this data, the following work aims to analyze the evolution of air quality in the city and study the impact that certain measures or episodes that have occurred during these years may have had. In order to carry out this study, a Geographic Information System will be created to facilitate the understanding and analysis of the data.
