In this framework, the investment patterns of a sample of virtual universities are determined, defined as universities that develop his formative activity through e-learning systems, and the relation between TIC and economic efficiency is analyzed, reaching to demonstrate the following main hypothesis: the complementary effect of the investment in TIC and the methodological and organizational innovation are the determining factors of the technical and appointing efficiency of this typology of universities; in addition, these investment patterns explain the need of adapting the systems of costs traditionally implanted in the university sector to a new structure of costs.
