Abstract: The corruption has cultural, economic and political roots; its identification in each individual country is a need in order to fight against it. The main causes of corruption described in the bibliography have been analyzed and most of the countries of the world have been ranked according to their corresponding indicators. Those identified as important in the Philippines (a former Spanish and U.S. colony) have been analyzed, and their colonial roots established.
