Abstract: On the web, there are a lot of disorganized and heterogeneous knowledge. As it is now built the web, it is possible that the knowledge on a field is being scattered in several resources on the web. One way to try to infer knowledge of different resources without human intervention, it would be creating intelligent programs to interpret information from different sources. This solution would be costly and it would be a challenge. On the other hand, there is the idea of accompanying the content with a representation of themselves, (a standard representation), that would create genuine knowledge networks through which an intelligent knowledge could be inferred much more easily. The purpose of this project is to deepen on this latest proposal, which adds knowledge to the web. For that purpose we will introduce a tool to add meaning to the web, OWL. We will investigate its characteristics and its base and we will understand why and how it is used. Also different tools for working with OWL will be showed. Finally, a semantic web will be presented as example.
