Abstract: From different surveys on institutional satisfaction and analysis of the library server's 'log' file on use and user behaviour, it was revealed that users found it increasingly complex to access content and services, in proportion to the growth of both resources and number of users. The increase in resources and in applications developed by the Virtual Library of the Open University of Catalonia (UOC) made it necessary to select and implement a search engine to facilitate access to information resources and services offered to the virtual community, according to type of users, languages and their learning context. This article describes the process of analysing different products and the subsequent implementation of Verity at the UOC's library, and of adaptations made to different applications to allow the engine to perform its functions.
