| Abstract: | The MPEG-1 Layer III standard was created a little less than 10 years ago and in this short space of time it has revolutionized the hitherto stable world of music. The fact of being able to compress an entire song in only a few megas (3 or 4) without an appreciable loss of quality, and the proliferation of computers connected to the Internet, caused the traffic of files in this format to overload more than one server. For this reason it is not surprising that huge collections of musical files should appear in MP3 format, proceeding from the most variable sources. This fact (the diversity of the sources) and the variations among encoders mean that the quality of the sound in these files is very far from being uniform. And this is precisely what this project seeks to achieve: to make the entire collection of MP3 files sound out equally loud. |
