Abstract: The process of aging is characterized by the existence of a pro-inflammatory state that has been named "inflammaging" and this state is determined for a low-grade, controlled, asymptomatic, chronic and systemic inflammation. This link between inflammation and aging has a multifactorial character, in which differents operational mechanisms are involved. Some of these mechanisms can be the presence of a genetic component, the immunosenescence or the decrease of autophagy ability. The majority of the diseases related with the age (Alzheimer, arteriosclerosis, cancer, among others diseases) are characterized to have an inflammatory basis according to its pathogenesis. This meant that the inflammaging constitutes an important risk factor in both, the morbidity and mortality in old people. In a sense, different studies about this inflammatory state have revealed the existence of several valid biomarkers like measures of inflammaging. Some of these valid biomarkers to measure the inflammaging are: an increase of serum levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, an increase of the circulating mitochondrial DNA or the participation of the circulating microARN in this state. The research of effective interventions to be able to understand and palliate the effects of the inflammaging is postulated as an important channel of research it highlights the paper of the nutrition as a modulate factor of the inflammaging and its possible protective role on chronic diseases related with the aging.
