Abstract: With about 20% of the Catalan population below the poverty line, there are parties advocating the minimum insertion income force; others, however, advocate a guaranteed income. But, is there any party that includes the implementation of the universal basic income in Catalonia? A priori, this proposal could be associated to a leftist ideology due to its fully egalitarian policy. This is, in fact, the main hypothesis of this study. To check its authenticity, I interview thirteen personalities, namely representatives of the main political parties of Catalonia, representatives of major trade unions, and representatives of relevant movements with respect to the subject. They also respond to the same questionnaire. After analyzing the content, I conclude that, in fact, the UBI is a mainly leftist proposal, although certain qualifications should be added.
