Abstract: Walter Benjamin draws attention to the role of the subject of many in the organization of literary discourse over the city during the nineteenth century. The new consciousness urban keystone of modern, structured through a dialectical conflict between the possibility of freedom offered by anonymity and the difficulty of singularization of the individual. At the same time, the city appears as a physical space of projection and display of the aspirations of the emerging bourgeoisie. If, at first, St. Petersburg, and especially London and Paris stand as paradigms of modernity - in the hands of Gogol, Dostoevsky, Poe, Dickens, Baudelaire, Balzac, Zola, etc. - Barcelona will not be left out of this trend in the field of literature, the figure Oller is key to understanding this ideological operation.
