Abstract: The phenomenon of video nasties, caused by the ban of these videotapes, prevented access of several generations to some key films to understand the evolution of genre film and motivated the articulation of a black market very diversified, self-organized by the fans. Currently, the VRA is still in force with minor amendments, but many video nasties have been approved and have become consumer products like others. The recent revitalization of the nasty phenomenon, due to the cooperation of the new technologies and the Internet, has led to claim many nasties titles in the academic world and the cult cinema among younger generations of fans, which shows that the cultural phenomenon, although remains as a minority group, has acquired its own essence and continues expanding.
