Abstract: The phenomenon of open data has become a global trend, with more and more data coming from both private companies and public institutions. In the world of scientific research, open data is related to the Open Science model, which on the one hand advocates open access to academic publications (Open Access) and, on the other hand, the access to the data on which publications are based, so that data can be used freely, reused, and redistributed, with the only requirement of attribution and sharing (Open Data). This article reviews the state of the art of open data publication in the field of research, and analyzes the cases of CERN, from published literature, and the ALBA Synchrotron, thanks to the interview with the head of Computing and Control Division, David Fernández Carreiras. The article ends with a series of recommendations based on personal analysis for researchers and research centers wishing to publish their open data.
