Abstract: Sustainability information is increasingly having more relevance in annual reports of hospitality companies. This paper investigates the relationship between the communication of Corporate Social Responsibility to stakeholders, the gathering and processing of data contained in sustainability reports, and the technologies that allow the automation of sustainability indicators. In order to contextualize the findings, a tool to measure the impact of Corporate Social Responsibility applied to the real case of Meliá Hotels International was designed. Meliá Hotels International is a Spanish leading hotel company with a portfolio of 375 hotels worldwide. The scope of this work was limited to obtain the carbon footprint (environmental impact) and social cash flow (socio-economic impact) through a dashboard, thus Meliá Hotels International management could quantify the impact and the specific initiatives undertaken by the company. For this purpose, personal interviews were conducted with experts within Meliá Hotels International, as well as with external ones; additionally an exhaustive bibliographical review was performed, in the areas related to this document. As a result, the most representative data in the Corporate Social Responsibility reporting in the hotel industry were compiled. In the same way, improvements were detected in the processes of obtaining and calculating the indicators applied to MHI. On the one hand, the data details were deepened and extended based on the different areas of sustainability, especially regarding the contribution towards the local community; on the other hand, at technological level, substantial improvements were proposed based on the Internet of Things. All this, must provide reliability, immediacy and transparency to the entire process of data consolidation, additionally savings in human resources time, filling and verifying the data, approximately 18,963 hours in the case study.
