Abstract: The document presents advances of a research proposal that aims to study the pedagogical quality of the elements of instructional design of an Intelligent Tutorial System that applies gamification to develop digital competencies with the purpose of improving the performance of applicants in a preparatory course to enter an online secondary school (high school). The study proposes a quantitative method with a methodological post-test approach. This article reports the process of searching, selecting and organizing electronic documentation and in the discussion it reflects about two main points to offer an answer to the research question: the theoretical revision of the constructs that are the key in the research to guide the design of the strategy and generate knowledge, as well as the documentation and discussion of the stages of the study in order to establish criteria that allow to prescribe the method and the analysis of the results in this type of research.
