Abstract: The objective of this paper is to clarify in which sectors of activity and under what conditions the "One Belt, One Road" initiative (OBOR) launched in 2013 can be a source of opportunities for Spanish companies. Starting with a description of the evolution of the Chinese economy in the last 40 years and some local characteristics of the People's Republic of China (PRC) that have favoured the approach of this initiative, the first part is completed with an analysis of the type of internationalization carried out in Africa. Then the paper goes on a schematic but detailed description of the scope of this new Silk Road, the current situation and the achievements made in reference to these objectives. As a result of the location of some projects promoted by the OBOR initiative in Latin America, an important area of Spanish influence, and pointing out the weaknesses and strengths of both Chinese and Spanish companies, we identified what kind of companies are likely to be involved in the OBOR initiative and, through the analysis of an own professional experience, we designed a framework and an action plan in order to adapt Spanish companies that would like to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the OBOR initiative.
